Teaching Kids German

German is a wonderful place to visit. You can find several interesting places with remnants of the past in Germany. German was the major force in all world wars. The remnants in most of these places are hence monuments of these wars.
Everyone knows that children get to learn faster and more compared to the adults. There are even reality games to the effect that the adults are beaten out on basic knowledge skills by five graders. However, when it comes to teaching kids German, the kids do not get to have any lessons until they reach the middle school and by this time they are more hard headed than usual. Blame it on the fact that there is really nothing to motivate them or you can blame it on the fact that they really could not care less.
For parents who are determined on teaching kids German, may experts have time and again said that the instruction should be done before adolescence and from inside the home. This way, the children will gain fluency and the way they pronounce the words would be more natural. If the teaching is done within the home, this means that the parents should also speak in the language inside that home. This is a method called IMMERSION, where the student lives the language, not just reads about it in books.
Time and again it has been proven that the younger the child starts out to learn a language, the more fluent and more comfortable they are in speaking it. So if there are no teaching kids German languages offered in the pre-kindergarten or elementary schools in the particular area they are living in, it is up to the parents to introduce their children to their language. This way, no hang-ups develop around the learning of a different language.
If the children are taught in middle school, they have reached an age where they want to do things a little differently, even if they know that they need to learn that second language. So what happens is, they memorize and just attempt to get grades good enough not to flunk them, but at the end of the school year, all the learning they had managed to get flies out the other ear and jumps clear out the window.
There are now schools which aim to change the system of teaching kids German in middle school; instead, these schools have shifted the lessons to pre-kindergarten and elementary school levels. The method they use is immersion as this is the best and most effective method of teaching a second language. Although there are some controversies behind the decision for going for the immersion method, stating that it can be ‘illegal’ or ‘psychologically damaging’ to the child, most parents who want their children to learn German, Spanish, Chinese, French and other languages have given full support for these schools and the method they use for teaching. Of course, the decision really remains in the hands of the parents who wish their children to speak a second language or speak the native tongue of the family. This way, the parents can immerse their children in the language both at home and in school, giving the child a better chance to grasp fully the language their parents speak.
Speaking a second language like German, is a great asset for a child for they can grow with this skill and get more chances career wise. With the internet closing the distance gap in every way across the world, who knows what skills they can develop with the second language under their belt.
